Evidence from SW London Review, June 2009

At the bottom of this page you can download a presentation given by NHS SW London, dated 29th June 2009.

It is titled South West London Sector Presentation, and gives the background and objectives of the review. By the middle of last year, Phase 1 of the review had already been completed, with a series of options and proposals. These affected St Georges, Kingston, St Helier and Mayday Hospitals.

Scenario 3 on Slide 14 makes it clear that the closure of A&E at Kingston Hospital (or even closure of the whole hospital) was already one of the options being actively considered.

Slide 13 states that there is a potential to reallocate Maternity and Pediatrics across the four sites.

Phase 2a of the review was due to start in July 2009, ending in November. The timeline shows that this would include "extensive public/patient engagement".

During Phase 2b, which would follow on from Phase 2a, the sector strategy would be finalised and they would prepare for consultation.

The key messages in the presentation are:

  • "The current configuration of acute services is not sustainable; the scale of change required is large and will affect all hospitals."
  • "The quality and productivity of primary care, community care and mental health services also need to be transformed."
  • "All our organisations are signed up to transform the quality and efficiency of healthcare services in the sector."
